The Tyne Valley Alliance Trophy

Established March 2009

Dear Salverite

You are hereby invited to join the inaugural Tyne Valley Trophy, a competition to be played across six courses within the Tyne Valley .

As you may well be aware, as a member of Stocksfield Golf Club you are now entitled to join the Tyne Valley Golf Alliance. This entitles every member to play Garesfield, Ryton, Allendale, Tynedale and Prudhoe Golf Clubs once a year, free of charge. Please note that with the exception of Allendale, rounds must be played midweek.

Following a discussion on Sunday between myself and a few other current Salver competitors, it was agreed that a formal competition across these courses would enhance this offer and add to the enjoyment for everybody taking advantage of it.

Although the Tyne Valley Trophy will be independent from The Salver, it will be played under the same rules, i.e. all scores recorded must be played in the presence of an opponent/partner, and all putts must be “holed out”. The format for the competitions will be Stableford, scored using current Stocksfield Golf Club handicaps (full allowance). Any TVT scores may also be submitted to The Salver.

Each entrant to the Tyne Valley Trophy will be required to submit scores from a minimum of 5 of the 6 Alliance courses (Stocksfield included), and the highest combined total from these five scores will be crowned the winner of the Tyne Valley Trophy.

Each participant in the competition must state that they intend to record a score for the TVT, prior to commencement of a round – this particularly applies to the Stocksfield round, as most members play the course regularly. Golfers are not allowed to select a particularly good round upon completion as their TVT entry.

It was also agreed upon in the initial discussion that a nominal entry fee would be charged, with all takings going towards prize money. This fee will be £10. The distribution of prize money will be confirmed when we have finalised numbers. Players will also be requested to make a one-off contribution towards the new trophy, the amount for this will be confirmed at a later date.

All entries must be received by Friday 19th July. Scores can be submitted as soon as your entry has been confirmed. The competition will run from Spring Clocks Forward to Autumn Clocks Back to allow after work golf on an evening.

Finally, may the course be with you, and I look forward to hopefully receiving your entry or feedback in the near future. Good luck.

Regards

James Ramshaw.
